Baseball: Max Williams pitches complete game to lead Cougars to 5-1 win

Max Williams pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning to earn the complete game 5-1 victory over Hawkinsville Tuesday at Brookstone.
The win ties Brookstone and Hawkinsville for the top rank in Region 4-A. Brookstone's lone region loss was at Hawkinsville. The Cougars have three region games remaining. Trailing 5-0 entering the seventh inning, Chance Warnack and Dakota Sloan opened with singles.

After Brookstone coach Vince Massey visited the mound to check on Williams, he induced a pop fly on the first pitch to Alex Mays for the first out. A walk by Vince Fisler drove in Warnack for a 5-1 score with one out. Williams struck out Danie Mayo for the second out. Tyler Keen hit a long line drive to center to end the game.
"I was trying to figure out how long I wanted to go with him," Coach Massey said of his decision to stick with Williams with the tying run at the plate. "He had just pitched so well the whole game. Looking at the matchups coming up he had pretty much handled those guys."With two outs, Drew Lingo hit a home run in the first inning to put the Cougars ahead 1-0. Tim Kennedy and Cannon Jarrell singled ahead of Williams' walk to load the bases before Devil pitcher Earl Dupree struck out Duncan Fletcher to end the threat.

Dupree settled in and shut down Brookstone over the next three innings.
Hawkinsville's one chance to tie the game came in the fourth inning when Warnack got a two out double and Sloan walked.
Williams' pick off attempt at first got Sloan in a run down. Warnack tried to reach home during the run down but was thrown out at the plate by Lingo.
The Cougars added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Keith Pridgen led off the fifth with a single but was erased on a delayed steal. Matt Jones walked. Austin Pair reached on the only error of the game. Lingo's double scored Jones and moved Pair to third. Kennedy was intentionally walked. Jarrell's singled drove in Pair for a 3-1 Cougar lead.
In the sixth inning Hunter Green was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Pridgen reached on a bunt single. Green was erased on Jones fielder's choice. With two outs Lingo singled driving in Pridgen from second. Kennedy walked and Jarrell singled to drive in Jones for the 5-0 lead.

Williams on the mound helps Brookstone down Hawkinsville * 5-1

Drew Lingo had two extra base hits, sparking Brookstone to a 5-1 victory in seven innings over Hawkinsville * on Wednesday. He homered in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning. Max Williams's seven strikeouts helped Brookstone to the victory. Williams allowed one earned run, six hits and five walks over seven innings. Lingo, Tim Kennedy and Cannon Jarrell helped lead Brookstone. They combined for seven hits and five RBIs. Brookstone went up for good in the first, scoring one run on a solo home run by Lingo. Brookstone got two-run rallies in the fifth inning and the sixth. In the fifth, Brookstone scored on an RBI double by Lingo, scoring Matt Jones. Brookstone tacked on another two runs in the sixth. A single by Lingo ignited the offense,, bringing home Keith Pridgen. That was followed up by Jarrell's single, plating Jones. In the seventh inning, Hawkinsville * pushed across its only run of the day on a walk by Fisler.
