Scoreboard operators were busy on Saturday as Brookstone Cougars Varsity and Hawkinsville combined for 20 runs. Brookstone Cougars Varsity eventually won the offensive battle 12-8 in seven innings.
The teams totaled 24 hits, including nine extra base hits in the game.
Brookstone Cougars Varsity got its bats going early, scoring seven runs in the first inning to pull ahead of Hawkinsville. Brookstone Cougars Varsity scored in the first on a single by Drew Webb, a two-run double by Andrew Hamric, an RBI double by Hunter Green, an RBI single by Jarrod Little, an RBI single by Matt Jones, and an error.
Green racked up three RBIs on two hits for Brookstone Cougars Varsity.
Little got the win for Brookstone Cougars Varsity. He allowed four runs over 4 1/3 innings. Little struck out six, walked three and gave up three hits.
Colby Fords took the loss for Hawkinsville. He allowed seven runs in zero innings, walked none and struck out none.
Brookstone Cougars Varsity answered Hawkinsville's top inning with two runs of its own in the third. Brookstone Cougars Varsity scored on a two-run triple by Webb.
Three Hawkinsville runs crossed the plate in the top half of the fifth, making the score 10-4. A two-run double by Dakota Sloan and a sacrifice fly by Fords set off Hawkinsville rally. Culver Norred ended the inning by getting Jonathan McDaniel to ground out.
Brookstone Cougars Varsity increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. A single by Hamric ignited the offense,, plating Keith Pridgen.
After pushing across four runs in the top of the sixth, Hawkinsville faced just a 12-8 deficit. An RBI single by Alec Mays and a three-run home run by Royce Owens sparked Hawkinsville's rally. Brookstone Cougars Varsity stopped the rally after Norred got Fords to ground out.
